Things to Purge While You’re Decluttering this Weekend
Time to Get that Fall-Clean On…
My decluttering is taking on a serious upgrade this year. In a world that feels a little chaotic, it’s nice to feel organised and in control. I’m usually decluttering every week. However, every now and then I love a good purge. Clearing everything out, welcoming the new.
I’m planning to do my deep clean organisation this weekend. Dedicating the weekend to clear everything out sounds boring but it’s going to be worth it, I promise. This is separate for my usual seasonal declutters of my wardrobe. This is the tiny jobs around the home, those jobs you completely forget about but make all the difference! If you fancy joining me in clearing out the junk, here are some of the things I’m going to focus on this weekend…
MAKEUP & SKINCARE.
I’m a sucker for good skincare, so my makeup organiser and bathroom cabinet is the first place I’m heading during my decluttering. I take time to go through each product to check the date to see what has expired and needs to be thrown away. Anything that I’m no longer in love with I will put to one side to donate when I can.
While you’re at it, head to the bathroom and get rid of anything cluttering your shower. If it’s sat there and you’re not using it, it’s time to let it go.
MEDICINE BOX.
Please tell me I’m not the only person with a medicine/ first aid box? I took my Girl Guide’s promise seriously to always be prepared! While I’m in the bathroom, I take this opportunity to check this box and get rid of anything expired or medicine that is no longer needed. I always take stock of things that need adding to the box, more plasters, wipes, etc. As we’re heading into the colder months, it’s always worth stocking up and having cold and flu things on hand ready for when you’re not feeling great. Better than having to drag your ill self to the supermarketing and getting everyone sick.
STATIONARY.
Next, I’m heading to the home office and checking everything up there. Broken pens, highlighters that have run out. Anything that needs getting rid off. Also, I take the chance to shred paperwork and organise my billing folder. Finally, I get myself a list of things I need to stock up on. Any excuse to buy some new stationery. I’ll take that opportunity!
PANTRY CUPBOARDS.
Next on the decluttering list is the pantry. I take this time to get rid of expired cans or condiments. I also take the opportunity to Kon Mari anything that I 100% know that I’m not going to use (there’s always a few things that end up at the back!) Anything that is edible still I will never throw away. As we’re heading into Fall, my local church will be having a harvest festival where they will be taking donations. You can also drop off of any food to local food banks.
LINEN CUPBOARD.
Finally, I’m heading to the linen cupboard for a decluttering. I’m getting rid of old towels and bedding that I know is not going to see the light of day. Things that I’ve put to one side for spares and guests. If I’m not happy sleeping in it, then neither are visitors!
Another thing I always have a look at getting rid of is beach towels. Not something any of us are reaching for right now but seem to get grotty over time. Again, if I’m not happy anyone seeing this on a beach one day, it needs to go!
