Bedroom Decorating Ideas for Couples that You Both Will Love
Blending Two Interior Styles Together…
When it comes to two people moving in together, you have to work together to blend your styles. For myself and my husband, the one thing we concentrated on was searching for bedroom decorating ideas for couples. Whilst I’m given free rein of the house, I always wanted to ensure that he felt comfortable in our bedroom to switch off and relax.
Blending two interior styles together can be a challenge, but not difficult. It takes time and many different ways, but you will eventually find a way that fits you perfectly. As I said, there’s a couple of different ways, but here are my top five that you can incorporate and try this weekend…
Go Contemporary.
If you’re both not particularly married to a certain design aesthetic, then you might want to consider going contemporary. The upscale, modern bedroom is unassuming, so it will appeal to the majority while still feeling elegant and welcoming.
Think streamlined, solid colours and unassuming. A bed frame made of thin metal would be perfect. Metals, solid woods and very soft, creased linens will complete the look.
Opt for Neutrals.
Going for a neutral colour scheme is a great choice and something I would always recommend when it comes to bedroom decorating ideas for couples. A neutral colour not only appeals to various design styles but can be a calming choice for your room. For me, because I wanted our bedroom to be a calming oasis, this suited us perfectly. It also marries the rest of our home, as you’ll be able to see on my Instagram feed.
Neutrals are not boring. The key is within the texture. This is all down to the materials you choose, the textiles you incorporate. It’s the imperfections within the materials that will make your home shine.
Incorporate Artwork You Both Love.
Artwork is a way for your room stand out from the rest, but it is also a great way to blend two styles together. For me, I would always go opposite to what your main style is. So for example, if you’ve gone traditional with the wallpaper, a modern print is a great way to trick the eye and make the room dance.
Another way to mix styles with artwork is with the frames. Again, go opposite, so traditional print, modern frame, It’s all about tricking the eye.
Add a Great Scent.
When it comes to bedroom decorating ideas for couples, everyone forgets about scent. How your room smells will bring the whole room together. I love a relaxing, lavender scent to create that calming vibe. If you feel like your room is leaning one way (i.e more feminine) then much like the artwork, going the opposite with the scent will distract and bring interest to your home.
When it comes to ways to incorporate scents in a bedroom, I would go for the classic diffuser and candle. A diffuser will keep that scent going throughout the day and then you can light a candle in the evening as part of a nighttime ritual.
Eliminate the Clutter.
My final tip for decorating your bedroom as a couple is to eliminate clutter. By hiding as much as you can away behind close doors, it will allow the space to be a neutral place for you both to unwind and relax. Bedroom organisation is ideal for helping you to hide away the unwanted clutter whilst keeping everything in one place.
If you have to have a few things on show, much like we have to, go back to the contrast and blend. So having a couple of perfume bottles and aftershave mixed in. Again, it’s all about the dance of the eye and the incorporation that will complete the overall look and create a perfect harmony for both you and your partner.
