Separating Spaces without Losing Your Deposit…

Quite frankly, this DIY renter-friendly interior walls project might be my favourite one yet. This whole project is part of our home office makeover, we are finally making over the attic room.

This project was huge. There was alot to tackle and I couldn’t create a blank space due to the amount of stuff. This is why this DIY renter-friendly interior walls was important. It was part of creating hidden storage. I had this idea of crawl in storage but it had to be renter friendly. Got to make sure you can get that deposit back!

Below is the before, the space that needed storage and how much stuff needed organising.

The Process.

To make this project renter friendly, we had to create a framework for storage and to build the interior walls around. This is where the Ivar range from Ikea came into play. The plywood range is easy to customise and perfect for storage. We have previously used the range in our basement makeover and they are perfect.

Once we got everything to build the storage, it was time to configure the layout. I created two sections, one for immediate access and one for more seasonal storage.

Once this was built and planned, it was time to add the hardwood. I went with hardwood because it was the cheapest option for the size I needed. This was also the project that forced me to buy an electric screwdriver and let me tell you, life changing!

I had screws from other projects so it was a case of dedicating a weekend to build it and off we go!

The Finished Results.

The whole process was covered on my YouTube channel and I’m obsessed with the results. It’s perfect. I have hidden storage and the whole space feels so much more calmer. Everything is tidy, out of sight, out of mind.

I cannot wait to get these walls covered to blend them in with the other walls. Once we get them wallpapered, then we’ll be moving onto the next DIY projects for this space and the next Ikea hack.
