Homes That I Constantly Fall in Love With…

There are no interiors in a film that I love more than those in a Nancy Meyer movies. Every single one I put on I fall head-over-heels for. Even the backgrounds that were shown on the Father of the Bride 3 feature (I desperately want to get my hands on them for my own work Zoom calls).

Nancy Meyer Movies are honestly a holiday for your soul. I am so obsessed with each of the homes in her films. They always feel personal, you can tell exactly who the character is based on their interiors. It’s a dream of mine to have a Meyers-esque home. And with buying a home on our minds this year, I keep manifesting this idea that one day I’ll have a fabulous kitchen to bake on a lazy Sunday.

If you’re a lover of Nancy Meyer movies and want a home like one of the characters but have no idea where to start, here are some of the tips that I’ve picked up from the films that I’m incorporating/ wanting to incorporate into my home…

LUXURY IS ALL IN THE DETAIL.

I’m a huge believer in ‘it’s all in the details’ and that comes across in many of her films. Whilst it can be easy to skip on these details for cost and time, it’s worth investing in both of these as they will make a huge difference to your space. It’s not just about going custom on everything, let’s say for a kitchen as an example (much like the in the film It’s Complicated). You don’t need custom cabinets and high-end countertops. Rather, it’s about going a little oversized with your lighting, investing in your handles and creating a moment with your kitchen island.

AIM FOR COLLECTIVE WITH YOUR DECORATING.

There’s one thing I do not like which is a cluttered home. Unfortunately, eclectic will not be in my wheelhouse ever. However, something that I love in Nancy Meyer movies is that the homes always strike that perfect balance with curated and personal, without it being too over the top. From this, I tend to go towards items that are vintage-looking or have personal meaning to me. My aim is to have a fabulous home that everyone wants to ask where I picked this or that from?

To me, you want people to take deep interest into your decor. Therefore, I would always aim to go for items that are a little unique and fabulous.

CLASSIC DOESN’T MEAN BORING.

Something that I always consider with Nancy Meyer movies is that their interiors are quite classical. However, classic doesn’t mean boring. I love some white slipcovers on sofas, blue and white accents, stripe patterns and classic tonal wood. So how do we spice classic interiors up? To mix it up like Nancy Meyer’s would, add some florals to those stripes, add some additional colour and go large with artwork and decor pieces. The key is to ensure you don’t go too safe. If you go too safe with classical decor it will look boring. And no one wants that in their fabulous home.
