Anything to Put a Smile on Your Face…

Right now I think we’re all trying to find anything that allows us to create moments of joy in our life. It’s a weird time and I think we’re finding anything right now that will give us those little moments of joy. I’ve always preached about creating moments of joy in your life- it’s the ethos of this blog!

Creating those times that spark joy is essential for living a happy life. They are completely unique to you and are essential for keeping you motivated and uplifted. I’ve spoken a little about these moments I’m creating for myself on my Instagram Stories, but if you’re needing a little inspiration, here are my suggestions/ things I’ve been doing to bring moments of joy into my life at the moment…

VERY CHILLED OUT SUNDAYS.

This one may not be new to most of you, but usually, I’m working full-on at the weekends on the blog. However, one of the benefits that have come out of lockdown the reduction in my commute time. It means I’ve had a lot more time in the morning and evenings to work on my blog. In fact, I’m quite ahead with schedule posts as I write this! Because of this, I’ve managed to reduce the time that I work on blogging down to just a Saturday, meaning I have Sunday’s all to myself for the first time in a long time.

I’ve been using this time to actually relax, whether it be caring for our home with a bit of cleaning (yes, this relaxes me) or a spot of gardening. I’ve also started to enjoy a coffee sit down with a Nancy Meyers film on for an hour or two in the afternoons. It’s simple moments like this that have brought me joy. Another thing that I’ve loved doing on a Sunday is a good old jigsaw. Who knew this is something that this would have brought me joy during this time.

LONG HIKES & WALKS.

It’s not lost on me how lucky I am that I have the Yorkshire countryside on my doorstep. I’m a stone throw’s away from so many footpaths and country walks. Recently, I have taken up running but I’ve started to develop shin splints. Worried that I was going to be missing out on my cardio as part of my fitness routine, I decided to go on an hour walk in the morning and I loved it. I’ve decided that I love walking and hiking much more than running. So every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 6 am, you’ll find me on a country walk with a coffee in hand, making most of the countryside. I also love my hikes on the weekend. Usually, Lee and I will go for an hour/ two-hour hike in the woodland areas where I can pick some wild garlic. I love these afternoons, especially if they are sunny. We’re so isolated and away from everyone, it’s great for us to get outside while still being safe about it.

ELEVATED DATE NIGHTS.

As I’ve spoken about in a previous post, Lee and I have been treating ourselves to date nights at home. But taking them to the next level. I won’t go into the process too much (click on the link above to see how we do it), but we really make these evenings feel amazing and elevated. It’s the one time that we’ll drink (I’m so glad that Lee is now into wine) and we treat ourselves to some amazing meals. Jazz music and quality time. What more can you ask for?

BUYING FRESH FLORALS.

I always love fresh florals but during this time it’s become more a treat. If there happens to be some that I love when I go to the supermarket once a week, that’s a sign to get them. No going out just for them. This time of year has some of my favourite blooms. Peonies, tulips and white roses. I always love decorating my home with fresh florals, but right not this is a small moment of joy that makes my week.

WEARING SUMMER DRESSES.

Dressing up has become a thing I thought it would never be. If I don’t wear leggings for a day, that’s an achievement. Recently, I’ve been getting into dresses more than I’ve ever been. I love this loose one from Zara last year. I really want to invest in some more. There’s this shirt dress one that I would love wearing to my WFH office. I also love this tea dress, it’s not my usual style but I’m embracing a more feminine style. While it doesn’t seem like much, putting on a summer dress is a moment of joy that I look forward to.
