How to Do Date Night at Home
Because date night doesn’t have to cost a lot…
In the effort to save some pennies, Lee and I are big fans of the date night at home. Date night doesn’t have to be a big deal. And whilst I am a huge fan of the wine and dine (who doesn’t love going to a nice restaurant?), there’s something nice about making an effort into turning a meal at home into something special.
The key to a good date night is ensuring it feels just a lovely as it would be as if you were going to a restaurant. Here are my top tips for creating an amazing date night at home…
KEEP THE MEAL SIMPLE.
Sure you can show off your chef skills in the kitchen. But really, the ultimate date nights are the ones where the food is easy and you get to spend some quality time together, rather than in the kitchen. A few weeks ago, Lee and I showed off our pizza making skills on Instagram Stories. Homemade pizzas are super easy to create. Even a novice won’t find this intimidating. For sides and snacks, I find a Caprese salad is a real crowd pleaser. There’s no stovetop involved and it’s incredibly delicious to pick at. Finally, some olives, because who doesn’t enjoy snacking on these bad boys?
A CENTREPIECE MAKES EVERYTHING LOOK PRETTY.
I love a good centrepiece to pull a table together. As we don’t have a dining table, our coffee table became the area that I decided to dress up. I covered it in my linen table cloth and these gorgeous peonies, which I am so happy are back in season. When it comes to dressing up your table, flowers are the easiest of centrepieces to do. You can also go for candles or tealights. Whatever takes your fancy and lifts your table from looking ordinary.
SERVEWARE IS EVERYTHING.
Now is not the time to use your usual plates. To really up your date night, you need to pull the works out when it comes to your serving ware. Pull out our fancy serving plates and your wooden boards. Also, choose some different glassware than what you’d usually use. I love these glasses from Zara Home, they are so simple and make my lemonade look so pretty!
SET THE ATMOSPHERE.
You wouldn’t want to have a date night in a restaurant that was messy. So why would you do the same thing at home? Now, I’m not saying you’ve got to go Mrs Hinch on the room, but putting away what needs removing and giving the room the once over. It makes the room feel ten times better and helps make your evening. Also, candles. Candles can really help make the room smell amazing and set you up for the evening.
DON’T FORGET DESSERT.
Because no date night is complete without a pudding. For us, we love popcorn and movie night. But rather than throwing it into any old bowl, I like to serve mine in this gorgeous soup terrine. Not only is it more practical for keeping the popcorn fresh, but it also looks ten times prettier. A little something extra, ensuring your date night ends on a high.
When it comes to your dessert, make sure you pay attention to detail with how you are serving it and how it looks on the plate. Trust me, it will make your evening even more perfect.
