How to Make a Simple Outfit More Interesting

Because who says simple outfits have to be boring?

I would describe my style as relatively classic and simple. As you may have seen from my Instagram, I always stick to what I know. I would love to say it’s almost French but I’m not as chic as that. But I’m very much happy in jeans, a striped tee, loafers and some form of a blazer. It’s always been my go-to. Simple outfit styling is my comfort zone.

However, simple outfits don’t have to be boring. At all. Yes, the premises of the outfit can have humble beginnings. But the overall look of the outfit can be quite interesting. There are some simple and easy ways for simple outfit styling that can make it stand out from the crowd. Helping you to achieve that French girl simple styling on a budget.

So if you are also a lover of simple dressing and want a little injection of extra style, here are a few things that you can do with your outfit to take it to the next level…

 

 

COLOUR.

I always stick to a very simple colour/ tonal palette. Pretty much beige, creams and navy. However, a pop of colour in the form of a statement piece of clothing can really make an outfit stand out. I’m currently crushing on this mustard duster coat. Normally, yellow is not my colour, it washes me out. However, mustard is my jam and I’m a huge fan of the duster coat. It’s a simple item that can be thrown on over everything. Ensuring something like a coat or jacket is in a bright colour can make your simple outfit styling much more interesting, with very little work.

JEWELLERY.

Jewellery can absolutely make an outfit. I’m surely guilty of not taking advantage of not wearing a lot of jewellery. I certainly went through a phase of going for it with all the costume jewellery. However, recently I’ve only been wearing my engagement ring. Now, that is all changing, as I’m slowly building up a collection of fine jewellery. I’m obsessed with this octagonal necklace from Daisy London, it’s so simple and delicate. I can’t wait to add more Daisy London necklaces to my collection. Other pieces I want to add are more bracelets and earrings; a mixture of silver and gold so I can mix and match.

 

 

TEXTURE.

I love mixing up different textures and materials in a simple outfit styling. From mixing linen duster coat with moc-croc effect loafers, the contrast is what makes the outfit interesting. I’m a huge fan also of mixing in the more luxurious textures, like silk and cashmere into my wardrobe. The mix and match are what makes an outfit, so have fun playing around and see what you come up with.

FRAGRANCE.

This suggestion is an odd one as it’s not an item you can add to an outfit to make it into something. But fragrance helps you to feel more confident, hold yourself in a different light. And when you do that, you hold yourself in a different posture, which completely adds something to an outfit. Investing in an everyday fragrance will be 100% worth it when it comes to simple outfit styling. I’m obsessed with the original Marc Jacobs Daisy scent- it’s light and fresh without being too floral. Once you find your ideal perfume, you’ll feel like you can take over the world!
