Capturing the Nineties in a Playlist…
I mean, who at this point isn’t in love with the TV series American Love Story? From episode one, I’ve been obsessed. The fashion. New York. The smoking in the office. I’m not actually familiar with their love story, I was only nine when they sadly passed. Plus, I’m British. JFK Jr wasn’t as big of a deal as it was over the pond. But from the screenshots I’ve seen when they were teasing the show I knew this was going to be my jam. I just didn’t realise how much I was going to be obsessed.
Somehow, I knew Carolyn Bessette Kennedy was a style icon, but not someone I had personally referenced. However, when I started my research, I didn’t realise how similar we were. Not in physical looks, I’m pretty sure she’d have been a foot taller than me (she looks at least six foot on the screen). But our love for simple, clean classic style. Seriously, her wardrobe is pretty much in my bedroom. And yes, I brought a tortoiseshell headband. I’m a marketer’s dream when it comes to being influenced.
My New Playlist.
Apart from the nostalgia and glamour that came from the tv series (at the time of writing we have one more episode and I’m gutted), the music has been top notch. Enter my American Love Story playlist. We all know that I’ll take any excuse to create a playlist. Any season, any event. So getting the bangers that we playing on the first couple of episodes was a must.
I’m a true nineties girl at heart, so all these song remind me of my childhood. I love playing this in the car on the way to work. Completely with my sunnies and all black outfit. Pretending I’m smoking- that’s the only thing I can’t get behind.
I’ll continue updating the playlist until the final episode (I don’t think I’m ready). I also add some new songs. The vibe of my American Love Story playlist is cool vibes and relaxed nature. Nostalgia, but tunes that you can simply have playing in the background.
