Creating a Cosy Space to Come Home to…

I love creating a seasonal home. There’s nothing better than seasonal decorating, adapting your home to embrace the time of year. Christmas is truly my favourite time to decorate for, there’s nothing better on the cold, winter evenings than embracing a cosy, warming atmosphere.

Creating a seasonal home isn’t that difficult and is not about buying a million and one Christmas decorations. It’s more about joining all the senses together and creating a look that doesn’t completely take over your home. You want something that speaks to your interior style, with a little extra. Here are my top tips for creating a seasonal home.

Establish a Seasonal Colour Palette.

Your colour palette is going to help move your decor in the direction you want it to go in. It should incorporate your usual colour palette in your home, but with a twist. For me, having a natural tone home makes incorporating a seasonal colour into my home very easy. This year, I’ve embraced the greens and rust colours, they go perfect with my usual brass elements that I like to have.

Incorporate Natural Elements into Your Design.

Layering in natural elements is a great way to bring in that cosy vibe into your home. This can look like anything from incorporating greenery to adding wooden textures. Your tree is the usual green element, however having some garland on your stairs and mantle will help bring the look together.

Next year, I’m going to look at bringing in some logs to the fireplace for a really cosy look to our home. A simple stack is such an easy way to bring a subtle wintery feeling to your vignette.

Add in Some Holiday Accents.

Now it’s time to add in some holiday accents to compliment your other design elements. I like to find different ways to do this, not just with the obvious decor. For me that is within throws and pillows, very simple ways that don’t scream Christmas, but add that warmth with the texture.

Along with this, you will want some additional elements like mini trees, hanging bells and ornaments to bring this all together.

Incorporate a Scent.

I love to add a scent element to your decorating, it’s the cherry on top of the plate. For me, it’s all about a Christmas candle, they smell amazing and I have them dotted all around the house. I also love incorporating a room scent and a diffuser, anything to keep it smelling amazing.

Ensure You Embrace the Seasons Throughout Your Home.

The final piece of the puzzle is to ensure that you decorate your entire house. This ensure continuity and cohesion throughout the home. That doesn’t mean you have to go full out within each space, rather adding simple elememts throughout and going big in the more communal parts of your home.
