Our Basement Organisation

Finding Everything a Place in Our New Room…

One thing I wanted to make sure came out of this makeover was that we got our basement organisation down to a T. Afterall, this was the goal of clearing out and doing over this room, to ensure we gave our home enough storage for our things now and the future.

The basement makeover has been my favourite makeover, just purely for its practicality. We have so much room and space for all our things. Prior, as you may have seen on my YouTube channel, it was a dumping ground and needed a complete change.

I got so many questions on storage that I used for our basement organisation, that I knew I had to summarise it in a blog post. Here are the top three things that I used to organise our basement.

The Ikea Ivar System.

This was the shelving system that I’ve been using throughout our basement. The Ivar system was something I knew we have to get for the basement organisation. It’s completely customisable for your home, you can even play around with their planner on the website.

Along with the initial shelving part, there are so many different accessories that you can choose to go with the shelving. For me, it was maximising on their pull out drawers, cabinets and my favourite thing which was their storage box on wheels (which I keep my spare pieces of wood in). It was 100% worth the investment and I would totally recreate in our next home if we get some garage/ basement storage.

Clear Plastic Storage Boxes.

I’m obsessed with these clear plastic storage boxes. They are just the best for things you want to make sure stay nice and secure. The ones I use are from The Really Useful Box Company, I have so many in different sizes across my home. These I use for anything I don’t need everyday access to and things I want to protect from moisture. After all, this is an unfinished basement, so special things need protecting.

These are an investment, but so worth it. These will stand the test of time. You’ll be going back to using the boxes time and time again.

Woven Baskets.

The other baskets that I would highly recommend using for storage are woven seagrass baskets. These are decorative storage for things you might want to hide. Things that don’t always need to be on show. For me, this is a lot of our food in its original packaging. Also, any unsightly cleaning things that I really don’t want on show.

Personally, I use these throughout my home, especially in our kitchen. For me, they blend perfectly design and function. They are also super durable. These will last you for a long time, so again worth the investment.
