For When You Can’t Choose Between Styles…

Whilst I do have a distinct style in my home, I’m really drawn to many different interior stylings in my home. It’s the contrast that gives your home some interest. And although mixing styles in your home can be intimidating, it’s really nothing you should fear. If there’s anything I hope my Instagram and blog show, is that anyone can create a gorgeous home for themselves.

So here are my top tips for mixing styles in your home.

BLEND TO CREATE BALANCE.

When you start to incorporate two styles together, the instinct is to separate them in the areas of your home or room. However, you’ve got to blend them together. You have to blend say the modern and traditional elements together to create an even balance It feels more curated and thoughtful.

FIND THE COMMON THREAD.

The next thing to consider is finding the common thread between each of the objects in the room. This can be anything from texture to colour, something to bring cohesion to the space.

It’s important that this thread runs through your home. That doesn’t mean it has to be large and impactful in each room. But subtle nods to the thread will elevate your home and show how much of a design eye you have.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE LAYERS.

If you’re not confident to go all-in with mixing styles in your home, you can start small by layering. Mixing different styles through decor, textiles and art allow you to build upon them at a later date. It’s perfect for adding additional, larger items like furniture. It’s better to invest in furniture and take your time in purchasing it, than buying things that are just going to be replaced later on.
