Subtle Changes to Make to Your Home
When You Get That Feeling of Needing a Switch Up…
I don’t know about you, but if there’s one thing that’s been a constant over the last 12 months, it’s that I’ve gotten a little fed up with my interiors. Don’t get me wrong, I love my home and how we’ve renovated our rental. But after working and living in my home for the better part of a year, I’m itching up to make changes. Now, I can’t spring for a huge renovation project (considering the work we’re doing on our garden right now). However, if you’re like me, there are a few things that you can do, subtle changes to make your home that will have a huge impact.
Now, if you’re in need of a little switch-up, a change of scenery, here are a few things that you can do. Some subtle changes to make to your home that will make a big difference…
GIVE YOUR WALLS A NEW LICK OF PAINT.
You’ll be surprised how much a new coat of paint will do to a room. It’s a project that you can do in an afternoon and will make a difference to your home. I know for my home, our primary bedroom could do with a new coat of white paint.
Perhaps, if not refreshing your walls, you might want to completely change up your walls. A new colour or even wallpaper can make an impact. Again, for our primary bedroom, whilst I’m thinking of giving it paint, I’m also thinking about wallpapering the whole room. It will totally change the feel of the room.
ADD SOME ART.
Art can really change around a room, even just one large painting can make such a difference. When we first start doing the living room makeover, once we hung up our artwork the room was finally completed. When it comes to art, there are a few things to consider. Firstly to hang the art at the right height. So many people hang art way too high. It really should sit at your eyesight, so you don’t need to crane your neck to look at it.
The next thing to consider is the quantity. Do you want one large piece of art? Or perhaps a pair? What about going for it and doing a gallery wall? There are so many combinations you can do and planning out your artwork, you’ll have so much fun when it comes to creating ideas for your home.
SHOP YOUR HOME FOR FREE.
If you’re a little strap for cash, then why not give your home a transformation without spending a penny. I do this most days, which is why I can’t blame my husband for not knowing where things are meant to go half the time. I like to constantly change over the surfaces in our home. Switching up decor objects, coffee table books and faux florals.
So if you’re unable to actually buy anything new for your home, take a moment and try out different bits of decor in different areas of your home.
LIGHTING CAN MAKE SUCH A DIFFERENCE.
I will always have this advice on repeat, however, lighting makes such a difference to a home. The right lighting in a room sets the tone and the feel of the space. We’re mainly focusing on accent lighting, so you’re talking about side table lighting, floor lighting and wall lighting. You can never have enough lighting in a room. More often enough, I will have my side lighting on more than the big light.
PAY ATTENTION TO THE FINISHING TOUCHES.
The last tip for subtle changes for your home is to pay attention to the final finishes. Those last pieces that you add to your home. Think rugs, pillows and decorative objects. One thing I like to do is to shop around for vintage items that will give my home character and uniqueness.
Textures also add character and depth to your home. This can be mixing materials to juxtapose each other, like leather and linen. It adds interest for the eyes so it allows them to dance around the room.
