How to Create a Home You Truly Love
A Space that You Truly Want to Hang in…
Creating a home you love has never been more important than it is now. I don’t know about you, but I’ve been spending a lot of time in my home over the past 18 months. It’s become both my workspace and my home. Therefore, investing in this space and creating a home I want to be in has been my top priority.
Now creating that home does not have to break the bank or take huge amounts of your time to achieve. Rather, it’s all about being smart with these resources and following a simple formula. Want to create a home you love? Here are my steps on how to do so…
START WITH THE FOUNDATION OF THE ROOM.
The foundation of your home and each room is the first piece of the puzzle. It will inform how the room will be used and lived in. To start building on the first layer, you have to ask yourself two questions. The first is what do you currently have that you can use? You want to create a useable, functional space, so shop your home and see what you have that you can work with.
The next step is what do you need to feel at ease in the room? By shopping your home and knowing what you have to work with, you’ll spot the gaps. Those additional items that you need so the room best serve you. This could be a better coffee table in your living room that is more multifunctional. Navigate what you need based on how you use the room on a daily basis and you’ll be on your way with creating your wishlist.
Once you have the basics of the room in place, you’re on your way to the next step.
ADD THE PERSONALISATION.
Now that your basics are in place, it’s time to customize and add the personal touches. Personally to me, this is the most important step when it comes to creating a home you love. These personal touches will tell the story of not only your home but also you. It’s a way of you speaking without saying a word. However, personal touches differ from room to room. In order to finalize what goes where we’re back to asking some important questions.
The first being who do you want to be reflected in the room? If you live with other people, consider that you’ll want every member of the family’s interests represented within the environment. This can be your kid’s favorite toys, your partner’s love for a certain topic.
The next question is what memories do you want to be reminded of when you’re in the room. For me, I have framed photos of birthday celebrations and our wedding in our living room. For the kitchen, Spanish cookbooks remind us of our trip to Barcelona.
The final thing to consider is how to reflect all your interests. This is where you use certain objects to fill up space and show off all the aspects of your life. For me, if you’ve been following me on my blog or on Instagram, my ideal way to show off these interests is with coffee table books. They are a great way to show off your hobbies and interests. Simply stack them on have them open for everyone to see.
LIFE’S LITTLE PLEASURES.
This final step makes a difference to your home. This one is all about the extra details that bring joy and impact the energy of the room. You have to think about the details that you want to surround yourself with. Those little luxuries that you will use every day will bring something extra to your day.
With the little pleasures, you have to ask yourself what vibe you need in each room. For myself, my bedroom is very much a calm space. My living room, it’s very joyful and energetic. This energy that you need will dictate the colours you bring into the room, the materials, and the textures.
Finally is a personal favourite and that’s to think about the seasons. I love dressing our homes for each of the seasons, bringing the joys of Easter into my home and the magic of Christmas. These are great ways to change up a room and spark your interests in the space, whilst also honouring the season.
