My Kitchen Shelf Styling

Styling a Little Corner of my Kitchen…

This kitchen shelf styling moment came about thanks to our rental kitchen makeover. I’m so glad that I took on this DIY project. Though it was daunting, it has changed this space so much (see this previous kitchen makeover for the before-before).

The reason for building this unit was due to the plugs that are on the side of the wall. This kitchen only has two double plug sockets. And, not wanting to have every single appliance huddle on one side of the kitchen, I needed to create some narrow shelving that would house our coffee machine. I always wanted to take advantage of how tall our walls are. As always, this rental has a severe lack of storage, I wanted to take the shelving upwards. It’s not the biggest in terms of width. But it does exactly what we need and allows me to create a chic kitchen shelf styling moment…

STYLING A SMALL KITCHEN SHELF.

If you have a similar situation or are looking to invest and create something similar in your home (which I would highly recommend, I see many examples on Pinterest and it makes the fridge look more integrated), the main way I can advise on styling is to work in sections. The main way you can decorate your kitchen shelves is with cookbooks. They look great, add a bit of colour to the room and are perfect for helping the eye go upwards.

Next, I would say is to use it for designated stations. We have a coffee machine situated perfectly for easy coffee making. For the other cubby holes (as I’m calling them), I have one that was too high up, so I turned this into a little styling moment for my mugs. For the other, I decided to make it a designated breakfast station for my husband. Everything he needs first thing in the morning has been decanted into glass jars. I highly recommend if you have food on display to decant it into glass jars. It looks so much better than packaging and adds some texture to the room.

I cannot wait for when we eventually buy to do something similar. I’m not a fan of the fridge sitting out all on its own. So would be happy to do something similar in our forever kitchen.
