My Living Room Just Got a Bit More Grown Up…

I cannot tell you how happy I am to reveal my living room makeover to your lovely lot. I’ve been teasing it on Instagram Stories for the past couple of days and it’s finally time to show it off. This living room makeover has been planned pretty much since I started my new home office set-up.

I’m lucky to once again to have worked with Maison du Monde on this makeover, who helped with gifting me some of the furniture. Since the boxes arrived, I’ve been planning away, getting ideas and inspiration from everywhere. However, it was thanks to binging Dream Home Makeover on Netflix and the arrival of my new coffee table book that took me in a different direction.

For a while, I’ve been wanting to elevate my interiors, become a bit more grown-up. My interior style has been very all-white. I love a neutral interior but my home was becoming very flat. It was time to inject some depth to my home. Here is the reveal of the entire living room makeover. Forewarning, it’s very picture heavy. But I just couldn’t help it and I edited down quite a lot. So grab a cuppa and get stuck in and I’ll tell you all about the work that went into it…

THE DIY PROJECT.

As you can see, some things have been changed up. Mainly the open shelving. As much as I loved it, we needed some closed storage to hide some of our stuff. Not wanting to lose out on the height of the room and a styling moment, I DIY-ed some open floating shelves in the alcove. This project took a couple of days and I’m going to talk about it in tomorrow’s blog post.

As I wanted a cohesive look, I decided to try and match the shelves to the new furniture. I fell in love with Coat Paint when we did our kitchen makeover, so it was a no-brainer! I’m also 99.9% sure I only picked this paint because it’s called David Rose and the fact it matched the furniture was a lucky coincident. I honestly cried when I finished styling these shelves, they turned out exactly how I wanted them to be.

Another mini DIY I did in this makeover was to our fireplace. For ages, I’ve wanted to cover the green/ black stone and liven it up. With this makeover, I finally had an excuse to cover it with good old marble contact paper. This marble one is the same brand as the contact paper I use in the kitchen, so I’m confident of its durability. The results are an impressing looking fireplace that I couldn’t wait to style.

NEW ROOM, NEW FURNITURE.

Now we had the basics in, now it was time to install the furniture. As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I was incredibly lucky for Maison du Monde to help me out with this. Maison du Monde is fast becoming my go-to homewares store. Their pieces are so chic and suitable to all interior styles. Not only do they do some fabulous decor pieces, but their furniture is the best quality I’ve seen. These black chest of drawers were exactly what I needed for the room. I like to use a chest of drawers in the living room, one because most TV cabinets are a little too large for the alcove. Another reason is that I like to hide our Skybox and Playstation; out of sight out of mind.

Along with the chest of drawers, I also picked up this fabulous rattan and wooden globe from Maison du Monde for the living room makeover. It’s such a fun piece that adds a little texture and interest to the shelving units.

The other most noticeable change in the space is the rug. As part of the makeover, I knew that we needed to get a new rug. I loved our old one, but it was getting old and grotty. Our new Berber rug is simple and so soft, I’m so happy we went with this one.

FINISHING TOUCHES.

There are a few finishing touches I added to the room. The first being a full-length mirror in the entryway of our home. I’ve been desperate for a full-length mirror to bounce more light around and have something in this space at my height that I can my outfit out in before I leave the house.

There are a few final interior pieces that I added to the living room makeover. Some brand new cushions to my sofa, along with the couch getting a makeover. I’m in love with this blue patterned cushion and this lumbar support one also.

Overall, I’m so happy with the living room makeover. It feels a much nicer to be in and has really inspired more makeovers around the home.
