Small Practices to Make Your Home Feel Peaceful
Small Practices for Creating an Oasis at Home…
During this time of year, I always feel the hustle and bustle of life more. Maybe it’s the colder weather and the evenings getting darker quicker, but this time of year I always focus on putting small practices in place so that my home life feels more peaceful.
Personally, with my home and work life meshing together (as I’m still working from home) it’s even more important that when I close up my laptop and leave the home office that my home is ready to escape to. I treat it as things I would do before leaving work and once I’ve come home. These are small practices that anyone can do, and do not require any specialist things. It’s all about having the right mindset and willingness to create a home that feels like your own oasis…
CLEAN UP IN THE MORNING.
I’m a big believer in setting your day upright. So for me, no matter if I’m working from home or leaving for the day, I like to ensure my home is tidy. Personally, it’s the only way I feel calm and ready to take on the rest of the day. So if you’re thinking of leaving those clothes in a pile or not sorting out the cushions on the sofa, just dedicate five minutes before you leave for the day to make sure everything is in place. I know some people suggest waking up half an hour early to do this. If you want to be that organised, then go ahead. However, honestly, five or 10 minutes at the max is all you need to get everything in place.
Coming home to an organised home is the best feeling. Knowing that there’s nothing you have to do after a long hard-working day and can just put your feet up. Nothing beats that feeling.
LET IN SOME FRESH AIR & LIGHT A CANDLE.
It’s getting a little chillier during this time of year, but I still like to open the windows as soon as I get home. There’s nothing better than letting some fresh air into your home. In summer, I tend to also open as many doors as I can and just let that air get around my whole home.
Once that’s done and I’ve closed everything up (especially during this time of year), now it’s time to light some candles. I love creating a cosy moment at the end of the day. It helps wind down the mind and to truly relax.
GO OUTSIDE AND GET SOME AIR.
I’ve fallen in love with the daily walks that I go on. It’s great after spending all day at a laptop to get up and go moving. I’m so lucky to have the countryside on my doorstep and to escape from it all. Wherever you are, take time to put your headphones on and shut off the world. Even if it’s strolling through your town or village, taking time to get some fresh air and get some exercise in will be worth it. You’ll honestly feel 100% better for getting out there and instantly more peaceful.
