Things to do Once You’ve Decluttered Your Home
Maintaining All The Progress You’ve Made…
So you’ve decluttered your home and you’re starting at a fabulously organised home. You’ve binged on The Home Edit on Netflix and you’ve got all the systems in place. Your job is pretty much done, right? Well, not just yet. Truth be told, when you embrace the organised life, you quickly learn this is a lifestyle, not just a one-time thing. Building habits to ensure that your home always looks gorgeous, clean and organised.
This begins with immediately after you’ve decluttered your home. Once you’ve put that last system into place, there are a few things you can to keep up the process. Here are my top recommendations of things to do once you’ve decluttered your home…
DONATE UNWANTED CLOTHES TO CHARITY.
Giving away unwanted clothes to charity is the only way to go. Most local recycling centres have ways of dropping off bags that go straight to the charity shops. For smarter items, I’m a huge fan of Smart Works. Smart Works is a charity that helps provide women with the tools and the wardrobe to help them get back into work. With the way the world is right now, there are so many people needing help right now. So if you have the opportunity to help someone out with feeling confident, then it’s worth dropping off those unwanted items.
MAKE A LIST OF EVERYTHING IN YOUR FREEZER.
Ever come to your freezer and wondered A: what on earth are you? and B: how long have you been there? Once you’ve cleared out your freezer and given it a good defrost, make a list of everything going back in (and add dates of when they went in). Not only will it help when it comes to mean planning, but it will help ensure you never have a freezer that is chocker with items that you have no idea what they are.
RESTOCK YOUR CLEANING SUPPLIES.
If you’re like me, you’ll have too much fun with this step. But after every declutter, I take shop of what products need a refresh/ rebuying. This can be shopping in the backstock that I have in my basement or taking a trip to the supermarket. I have a box under the sink that I have everything I grab on a weekly basis so I tend to run through this and make sure everything is ready for the next time I pull it out. It means that when I come to the cleanup, I’m all ready to go.
GET LABELLING.
One thing I love to do through the decluttering phase is putting everything into boxes, compartmentalising everything. However, it is vital you follow up with the labelling part. It allows you to find everything you need without having to whip out each box every time. You can customise these labels however you like. I love handwritten ones and I found some great ones on Esty for the pantry.
SPRITZ SOME ROOM FRAGRANCE AROUND THE PLACE.
After a bit of a decluttering process, I love to run around the house with one of my favourite room fragrances. In my bedroom, I love to turn on my room diffuser with my favourite essential oils. Within an hour the room smells amazing and I feel like my home is complete. So get spritzing and lighting those candles. Sink into your couch and relax! Your hard work has paid off.
