5 (Almost) Free Ways to Transform Your Home
Because Not All Transformations Have to Cost a Pretty Penny…
Now, I love to buy new things for my home as much as any person. However, sometimes you have to rely on free ways to transform your home. Sure, it’s nice to give your home something new and shiny. But if your budget doesn’t allow it, then sometimes you have to get crafty.
I use to move my room around as a kid, so I became pretty good at transforming spaces without any budget. Recently, with my goal to save more money, I really don’t want to be wasting money on decor that my home doesn’t need. And with the urge to change up my home, there are some tips that I’ve been using to transform my home. If you’re interested in changing up your space, but don’t have the pennies (or that many) to do so, here are my top free ways for transforming your home…
BRING YOUR FURNITURE OFF THE WALL.
One of the best things you can do for your home is to pull your furniture off the wall. There tends to be a need to push everything back and have wide-open spaces, especially in living rooms. However, by pulling your sofa away from the wall will make your room feel so much bigger. Dead space in the middle of the room is not stylish. When planning your home and the floor plan of your home, focus on function and creating cosy, inviting spaces.
DECORATE EMPTY SURFACES WITH OBJECTS YOU LOVE.
Giving some new life to empty surfaces some love with objects and decor pieces you have around your home will be an instant refresh your home has been dying for. Now with this tip, you could go out and buy some new things. However, I’m sure if you’re like me, you have plenty of things you can change up and relocate around your home.
Decor pieces, you need to look out for small items from your travels, coffee table books and candles. My coffee table is a prime example of how I change up things, all are things you can find around my home (see my Instagram IGTVs for examples).
HANG YOUR ARTWORK AT EYE LEVEL.
Most of the time, if you’re room is not quite feeling right, it’s down to the artwork being hung too high up the wall. Artwork should be at eye-level or around 60 inches off the floor. It may seem tedious, but taking time to reassess your artwork and quickly taking off the wall and rehanging will make the world of difference to each room. Honestly, one of the easiest things you can to transform your home.
REFRESH YOUR TRIM/ WOODWORK WITH A NEW LICK OF PAINT.
I always keep a small pot of paint that matches the paint in my home for quick refreshes on walls and woodwork. It may seem like a hassle, but spending the afternoon quickly covering up marks and chips in your skirting boards and door frames, will give your rooms a whole new lease of life. Never underestimate the power of paint, from turning dingy yellowing woodwork into something clean, fresh and pull-together.
ADD TEXTURE WITH CUSHIONS & FLOWERS.
The best homes are filled with the following living things: people, pets and plants. As I cannot have pets in my home (rental), I fill it with plants. They breathe life and fresh air into a space, as well as adding texture and colour. Florals can work with any type of interior style, it all depends on the which ones you go for. For those wary of introducing new life into their home (those known in their friendship circle as the plant killer) invest in some faux botanicals. you can find some great options that look so realistic that require no care.
Fill pots and vases with these fabulous florals and place on your surfaces like a coffee table, kitchen counters and entryway.
