Nailing That Time Once You’ve Finished Your Day…
Since I’ve been working from home, I’ve found that my after-work routine has totally spun on its head. What used to be a race to get home and feel completely exhausted, I’ve found that I have so much time on my hand now that I’m no longer commuting. By the sounds of it, I’m not looking at returning back to my office until next year. So I’m taking this time to completely sort out my stuff out and get myself an amazing after-work routine.
Much like a morning routine, I find having an after-work routine puts me in the right mind frame to get my stuff sorted before bed. As I’m working and blogging, the evenings and weekends are the time I work on this website. So I have to make use of all my hours during the week and make sure I don’t waste any of it. To me, my evening routine is simple and effective. If you’re looking to create more hours in the day and are wanting to overhaul your after-work routine, here are the top things that always do once I close the work laptop.
PUT EVERYTHING AWAY AND SHUT THE DOOR.
I’m very lucky that I have a separate home office to work in. However, I treat it very much like an office. I put everything away, take my mugs and shut the door. Future me thanks me. I hate a messy desk so I like to ensure that it’s a welcoming presence that awaits me the next day.
The next thing I do is shut the door. It’s a physical symbol that the workday is done and it’s time to switch off that side of my brain and relax.
WORKOUT.
As I’ve spoken about in my at-home gym equipment round-up, I work out twice a day during the working week. If it’s one of the T’s (Tuesday and Thursday) I’m working out on my mat doing a focus area set. The rest of the time, I take myself on an hour walk. I really look forward to the afternoons where I can go on a walk. After being cooped up in the office all day, it’s great to get the muscles moving. I also find I have so much energy afterwards, so I’m ready to get on with the rest of my evening.
PREP EVERYTHING FOR TOMORROW.
This goes back to my secondary school days. I prep everything the evening before. When I was commuting, I would ensure my bag was packed and lunch was made the night before. I also pick out my outfit for the next day, it gives me an ease to my morning, ensuring that I start my day right. It’s something I’m still doing while working from home. I love just waking up and knowing certain things that picked and ready for me to go. Try prepping the evening before and see how you feel the next day. Guarantee once you start, you’re going to be a prepper for life.
CHECK MY FINANCES.
Something that I’ve spoken about on both the blog and my Instagram is how into finances I am right now. So something I do every evening is sit down with my laptop and check my balance each afternoon. I also whip out my budgeting spreadsheet and check how our budget is looking for the week ahead. Again, it’s a simple thing that puts my mind a rest. Also, I feel like such a boss babe, ready to take on everything once I’ve added everything to our spreadsheet.
CLEAN UP.
I love to clean our kitchen once we’ve finished eating. Again, future me thanks me for this every morning. I’m not someone to put every plate after washing it, but I do not leave dishes on the side and I wipe down every surface. I love the smell of a clean space and I feel much calmer and less cluttered in my mind. It may seem obsessive, but once I know that’s done and everything is tidy downstairs, I can take myself upstairs and get on with my blogging work with an ease of mind that everything is sorted.
