How I Stopped Washing My Hair Daily

TIME FOR THE HAIR REVOLUTION…
So, confession time. Up until the end of June, I washed my hair every single day. I know, it’s so bad. I’m not sure why I couldn’t stop washing my hair daily. Looking back, I can’t actually remember a time even in my youth when I didn’t wash my hair on a regular basis. In any case, it created a bad cycle, one that needed breaking.
Now, to give you a bit of a backstory to my hair. I have fine hair and a lot of it. However, no matter how much I have of it, fine hair equals a few things: it lies flat with no volume and it gets greasy quickly. Now, daily hair washing didn’t help the latter, but the cycle had begun.
I knew what I had to do in order to break the cycle. There are so many ways you can start hair training, but as I spoke on my Instagram Stories, my method was simple. Go as long as I could without washing my hair and then go from there reducing the washing. During this time when I’m not seeing anyone and working from home, there was no time like the present to start this journey.
GOING THE STRETCH.
Going a week without washing my hair was tough. My hair was constantly in a bun, it felt horrible and I was dying to get it washed. However, I persisted and come that Monday when I finally washed my hair it was glorious.
Now, washing my hair every other/ every three days is something I look forward to. I love that I can now invest in some luxurious shampoo’s and conditioners because they will now last longer. I love using OUAI Fine Hair Shampoo and Conditioner. Not only does it smells incredible, my hair feels brilliant after using it. Yes, my hair feels a bit strange on the second day (especially if I’ve used a lot of product) but it’s nothing that a little dry shampoo can’t fix.
THE NEW ROUTINE.
As mentioned, hair washing days are a treat and have their own routine. The usual happens with shampoo and conditioner. Next, I like to apply a leave-in conditioner, my favourite being SHOW Beauty Leave-In Conditioner. I find that using a leave-in conditioner allows my hair to be softer, stay smoother for longer and more manageable. Once I’ve combed it with a detangling comb, it’s time for some volume. For this, I turn to Kristin Ess Hair Instant Lift Thickening Spray. It gives my hair that volume and thickness that it much needs. Once it’s styled and fixed, I’m on my way for the rest of the day.
If I’ve left it straight (which it is naturally), I find I can easily get to day three no problem. If I give it a curl, due to the amount of hairspray I have to put on it to make sure it stays put, I’ll leave it until the third day scraped up if I’m not seeing anyone or doing anything.
I’m so glad that I’ve done this. No longer am I a slave to the everyday hair washing. My hair feels healthier and once I finally get it cut and coloured again, I know it’s going to be much better. If you’re thinking of taking the plunge and stop washing your hair daily, just do it. Push yourself to go a week to get the oils back into your hair and watch the magic happen. You’ll not be disappointed.
