What to Buy for Your ‘Adult’ Apartment
Because your first place deserves ‘grown-up’ stuff…
We all hit that point in our twenties when we go from just living in an apartment to living in an apartment. The twist where the place you live in becomes a home that you are proud of. I had a little bit of that in our previous place, but this house that we currently live in feels like home. Getting your first ‘adult’ apartment feel can come at any time. And with more and more of us living in rental accommodation, us Millenials are no longer waiting to buy to get that adult home. As someone who lives in a rental (loud and proud for the people in the back to hear), I’m constantly getting compliments on how grown-up my home feels, especially on Instagram.
The best thing is, you do not have to spend a fortune to get that adult apartment feel. While I do recommend investing in a few key pieces (which I’m about to mention), the mixture of high-low allows you to achieve the look of a grown-up home without breaking the bank. After all, being sensible with your money is what being an adult is all about.
Here are my top recommendations for what you should be investing in for your ‘adult’ apartment…
RUGS & RUNNERS.
Nothing screams adult than getting a gorgeous rug onto your floors. Rugs are not only gorgeous, but they are also practical. They help sound-proof your floors and zones a room. When thinking of a rug for your adult apartment, think of investing in something that is good fabric quality, this will stand the test of time. I love La Redoute for their rugs and would highly recommend one from there. You cannot go wrong with THE La Redoute rug in your home.
PLANTS.
You know my love for plant babies. Plants are a huge part of turning my house into a home. Not only do they make me more responsible as I have to look after them, but they also give a room a completely different feel. I’ve talked about the different types of plants that I recommend investing in, but my top picks are a Monstera, Fiddle Fig Leaf and Chain of Hearts are ones that you should totally be buying.
GLASSWARE.
Glassware is another great place to start for first investing in your ‘adult’ apartment. I’m obsessed with Anthropologie dining ware, and their sales are a great place to start and get some bargains. I would start with wine and champagne glasses, then go to some seriously cool tumbler glasses to make your daily water intake a little fancier.
GUEST BEDDING & LINEN.
My friends make fun of me for having guest bedding and towels, but I consider this to be one of the most adult things that I’ve ever done. I am very much prepared for when people come to stay over with gorgeous bedding. Back in uni, I literally rotated between just two sets of bedding. Now… I don’t wanna talk about how many sets of bedding I have.
ARTWORK.
Having artwork in your home is a great addition to add to an ‘adult’ apartment. You guys know my love for Desenio as a brand. Their prints are super affordable and their frames are stunning. I have their prints in pretty much every room in my home, all with a similar vibe for a cohesive aesthetic in my home.
I do find that adding greenery to a house make it a home. But I agree with everything else too . Loving your place by the way ! totally my vibe.
