Kitchen Styling
Truly the hub of the home…
Our kitchen is probably one of my favourite places to hang out in our home. It’s also the room we most likely spend the most time in. Since we did our kitchen makeover, it feels so much bigger and lighter. I absolutely love being in this room. And in terms of kitchen styling, this is the one room that I can sign off as ‘completed’. There are a number of rooms in our house that still have full makeovers to happen to/ additional little bits and bobs to buy for. For our kitchen, there’s nothing else for us to do. Apart from my pink-pot plant, it’s looking a little dead so it most likely needs replacing.
As the room is pretty much completed, the only thing left for me to do is the odd tweaks here and there. I’m constantly rearranging things around in the house, much to my poor husband’s annoyance. The recent addition to our kitchen cabinet has sent this into over-drive! I truly believe that every room in your home can be a styling moment- including the kitchen. Here are some of my top tips for kitchen styling…
HAVE THEMED CORNERS IN YOUR KITCHEN.
I love giving countertops and areas in the kitchen a ‘theme’ or purpose. Not only does it help with the natural flow of the kitchen, but it’s also a practical way to know where things are and to do your thing without clutter getting in the way. Take our coffee station, an area that’s hardly seen on Instagram due to the freezer that sits underneath. During the makeover, we added this small bit of countertop to the gap to add additional space. From there we found that this was the perfect place to house our kettle and Nespresso coffee machine. It’s right next to the fridge, bin and our mugs, making it the perfect place for making my morning cup of coffee.
ARTWORK MAKES A DIFFERENCE.
I love putting Desnio prints in pretty much every room of our home and the kitchen was not exception. I like to have a theme rooming through every single room, so oak/ wooden frames were a must in the kitchen styling. In terms of art, I went for something a little classic, black & white photographs along with some seafood themed ones. Great a little moment on your walls for the eyes to be drawn to. Here on the chimely is a great place for the eye to taken from when you walk straight through the door. Pick prints that will compliment your style and that would be suitable for the room that they are in. It will make such a difference to the space.
PRACTICAL THINGS CAN BE STYLISH ALSO.
Who says the practical things in your kitchen can’t be stylish? This can be broken down into two things. The first being appliances. I love my Smeg kettle and toaster. They look gorgeous and stylish on my countertop, as well as being the best appliances I’ve ever used. The next being the little things that you wouldn’t even think about. Fruit in a gorgeous fruit bowl can look amazing, just make sure you use it and don’t waste it. Cookbooks on display or perfect style add the character as well as look stylish. Finally your utensils. I love having just our wooden spoons and simple utensils out on display. Anyone I don’t like are in a drawer. Out of sight, out of mind.
DON’T FORGET YOUR FLOORING.
I’m all for gorgeous flooring in a kitchen, but where you can, I would always encourage to add a rug or a runner in the room. Not only does it look fabulous, but it also keeps your toes warm on a cold winter day. It’s not just about looking up and straight ahead, the eye wanders down too, so ensure your floor looks amazing too.
SCENT IS IMPORTANT TOO.
While Instagram doesn’t have smell-vision yet (though I’m sure they are working on it), the scent is the final part of my kitchen styling process. What’s the point in having a great looking room if your bin smell is the only thing you can concentrate on. I love having both a candle and a diffuser in the kitchen, ready to give the room a new lease of life. I also love citrus-scented cleaning products. That clean, fresh smell once you’ve cleaned the entire kitchen? There’s nothing else like it.
What a gorgeous kitchen!
