Leeds Eats: The Deer Park Pub

An old establishment has had a facelift…

The Deer Park Pub is an old establishment, in Leeds but I’d yet to make my way to visit it. So when I was invited to their relaunch evening to try out their menu and cocktails, I jumped at the chance. Inviting some of my friends, we headed out last Thursday for good food, good drinks and even better company…

The Deer Park Pub is located in the Roundhay, which a very popular and vibrant neighbourhood that I need to explore more of. It’s been there for a long time, but it’s had a new lease of life. And serious interiors upgrade, even better food and some fabulous drinks.

COCKTAILS.

This gorgeous pub has a huge variety of cocktails available on their menu. I tried one of their blood orange & passion fruit collins which was absolutely divine. If I was having more cocktails (I was driving that night), I would have gone for the cucumber ribbons or the white peach bellini. Both sound utterly refreshing.

The Deer Park also had a gin bar, a great spot on the side of the bar. It was filled with loads of different delicious gins, tonics and toppings. Again, if not driving I would have totally taken advantage of testing some different offers out. Definitely an incentive to come back again.

INTERIORS.

The interiors are a great mix in this pub. There’s the glamour side with leather, suede chairs and dark woods. Then there’s a park where it’s marble countertops and tables, deep velvet seating in jewelled colours and art deco style lighting. There is also a new conservatory area that is going to be amazing in the summer. It’s also reactive to the temperature so the roof will automatically open in the hot weather in the next couple of months. Again, another incentive to come back again.

DELICIOUS, DELICIOUS FOOD.

If you came for the interiors, you’ll stay for the food. It’s was utterly delicious and I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of choice you get. What’s even great is that they have a dedicated vegan menu. About 30% of their customers are vegan and it’s great that there are a number of different options rather just one or two dish choices.

For starters, I went for the baked camembert, a classic staple in my diet. The sloe gin chutney was to die for and something I want to try and make at home. A great starter that is meant for sharing, but honestly it’s just enough for one person. The scallops also look great (another favourite of mine), something that I will order next time.

For the main course, I decided to break my vegetarianism and try out their fillet steak (rare). 100% worth it. The meat was tender and cooked perfectly. Next time, I’d love to try the lavash vegetable flatbread or Caramelised onion tart. Both sound right up my street.

AND FINALLY, SOMETHING SWEET.

You’re truly spoilt for choice when it comes to desserts. Their signature dish is their melting chocolate & peanut bomb. Worth whipping your phone out, ready to record the magic. However, I decided to go for one of my favourite desserts, tiramisu. I needed a little coffee pick me up towards the end of the evening and this was perfect.

I absolutely loved my visit to The Deer Park Pub and cannot wait to go back again. I’m planning on taking my mum and dad here when they next come up and visit, I know they’ll love it for sure!

When will you visit The Deer Park Pub?

This dinner and drinks at The Deer Park Pub were complimentary in exchange for a review. All thoughts & opinions are still my own.
