There is nothing I love more than an organised home. For me, it’s essential for keeping my mind calm. And when my head is calm I feel like I can conquer the world. Because of this, I’ve got seven daily rituals I swear by.
These daily rituals give me a sense of calm and control. They are simple habits that I swear by. Honestly, they take nothing to do (like a few minutes) and no effort. And yet, it’ll seem like you’ve done loads and you’ll feel ten times better. Yes, I know it sounds very grandma-ish. You may have already switched off from this post. However, to me, it’s a form of self-care that makes me feel like a million dollars and allows me to wake up and go to bed in the right frame of mind. I swear by them. Seriously, try them for a week and see how you feel.
Here are my daily rituals…
My Daily Rituals
Make your bed every morning. This makes such a difference to my day. If I make the bed, I’m going to kick ass today. And, apparently, studies have shown that bed makers are not only more rested than non-bed makers but are also happier, healthier and more successful.
Hang up your coat on arrival. I hate coats draped over chairs. It takes nothing to hang your coat/ jacket on a hook or coat hanger. It’s just one less thing to worry about and it helps avoid creating dumping grounds across your home.
Keep your keys in a designated spot. I keep mine in a pot (not telling you exactly where it is for security reasons). I just know where they are and they are easy to access at all times. So no mad rush finding everything in the morning.
Pack a tote bag in your handbag before you leave the house. I use to do this all the time before I got Margot. Now I always ensure my reusable bags are in my car at all times. I hate getting plastic bags, so having them near me at all times means I don’t have to worry about having to buy on when I’m out and about.
Daily Rituals to Live By…
Open mail daily. Personally, I don’t know why you would leave it to pile up unopen. Sure, I leave the mail that I have to file for Sunday (bills, statements, etc). But as soon as I get home, I check our letterbox and open it straight away. It just clears your mind and lets you get focused on other things.
Do a quick sweep before heading to bed. I live for this. This is the ultimate daily ritual for letting my mind switch off. Wipe down your kitchen sides, wash your pots, put away your remotes, rearrange your pillows on the sofa. Whatever you need to do to get your home looking gorgeous and tidy. Trust me, it’ll make a difference.
Put your clothes away before bed. Another biggie. Fold, hang or toss your clothes into the laundry basket. A week of this habit and you’ll never have a floordrobe again!
