Capitalising on Septembers ‘Fresh Start’ Momentum

Ah, September. You certainly rolled around quickly, didn’t you? Not to sound like your grandma, but this year has gone by so quickly. I’m still a little shook that September is already here. And with September for me, comes a fresh start.

For me, fresh starts begin in September. I think it goes back to my love for the first day of school, the start of a new school year. January is goal setting. September is hitting the reset button and getting ahead for January. It’s that time that allows me to reset my brain and start the clogs turning for what I want to achieve in the new year. From October onwards, the rest of the year is just far too busy for me to get down to the nitty-gritty. September is thankfully my quiet month, so it’s perfect for a fresh start.

If you’re also keen to kick butt with September’s ‘fresh start’ momentum, here are a few things that you can do to get you started…

How to capitalise on the ‘fresh start’ momentum…
ORGANISE YOUR DESK.

This can be your work desk or your home office. I treat it like a wardrobe detox. Take everything off your desk so it’s completely clear. Next, give the table a good wipe down. This includes your computer/ laptop. When was the last time you did that?

Once you’ve given the space a good clean, start to put things back properly. Assess each object and if you actually need it. Donate anything you don’t need and toss away things that should have gone into the bin a long time ago. Give everything an area. Assign your drawers for particular items, so the next time you’re looking for a post-it note, it doesn’t take you ten years to find it. Once done, reward yourself with a bunch of fresh flowers (or fake) for your desk. You’ll feel amazing afterwards.

HAVE A WARDROBE DETOX.

September is the perfect time to give your wardrobe a fresh start. Let’s face it, summer is now over (sad face). It’s time to pack away your summer clothes and embrace your knits again. Much, like the desk, pull everything out and give that wardrobe a good clean. Be ruthless with the items you’re keeping, storing and going to donate (I promise to do a wardrobe organisation post soon).

Now is the perfect time to also introduce some new organisation to your wardrobe. Do you want to arrange the way you hang differently? How about what you actually hang your clothes on? September is the perfect time to treat yourself to new hangers. Get some that look identical (the neatness vibes are real). You may want to invest in some shoe boxes and finally get that organised. Whatever it is that you want to do the momentum from the fresh start will certainly be in your favour to give you that final push.

PRIORITISE HEALTH & FITNESS.

Mainly seen as a January thing, but September is ideal for a fitness reset. I’ve recently rejoined the gym and I’m ready for the challenge. Habits take a while to become embedded in your brain. So if you’re planning on resetting your healthy eating habits, by the time December rolls around, you’re less likely to fall at the first hurdle. This doesn’t just have to be food. Maybe you’re wanting to give up sugar or become vegan. Or you want to quit alcohol altogether. Whatever it is, now is the perfect time to get into the habit of doing it. The main thing to remember is, take it slowly and don’t go full throttle straight away. Take your time and build up to it.

LETTING GO OF THE NEGATIVITY.

A difficult one but the perfect time for it. This month, take stock of any negativity you have in your life and has been dragging you down recently. This could be a habit that you want to stop, a bad job or maybe, a toxic friendship that you no longer need in your life. Now is the time to sit back and listen to your mind and figure out what you need to do to look after yourself.

Self-care is the most important care you can do for yourself. It’s also something you might not be able to do on your own. This could involve talking to your family or friend. This could also mean talking to a professional. Whatever you need to do to take care of yourself, September is the time to start doing it.

HAVE A ROOM MAKEOVER.

A fresh start is a perfect momentum to makeover a room. I guarantee now, there’s a room in your home that is in need of some TLC. A room makeover is on both ends of the scale. It could be a simple rearranging of a space and an excuse to buy some new furniture or accessories. It could also be the beginnings of planning a complete room renovation and you use this month to book the people you need to book and plan the work needs doing. Changing up a room does wonder for resetting your mindset. Plus, your home will be very thankful and grateful for it.

What are you going to do with your September fresh start?

I hope you get the most out of your September and this post gives you the boost to make some changes in your life. Good luck with your fresh start! You’re going to kick butt with it!

P.S: Don’t forget to vote for me in the Amara Interior Blog Awards in the Best Use of Photography category. It’ll take five minutes and make my day.
