Creating the Ultimate Gallery Wall

One of the main things I wanted to create when planning the living room makeover was a feature wall. In this room, there’s one wall that is a bit of an odd one out. It looks short as it has two access doors either end. It’s also home to a radiator which makes any furniture put against it stick out like a sore thumb. So rather than ignoring it, I thought that I would make a feature out of it, and create a gallery wall. And for creating the ultimate gallery wall, there was one place that I had in mind…

The ultimate Desenio gallery wall planning…

Enter Desenio. I’ve previously worked with them in the past in my old flat, so they were my first port of call when it came to creating my gallery wall in my new home. With us going in a totally different direction to the light and airy feel of our flat, we needed brand new art-prints to complete the room. What’s perfect is that Desenio has this great feature on their website that allows you to create a gallery wall on your computer. You can literally plan out how it’s going to look and see it before committing. It means you can see exactly how the prints will look together, ensure ultimate harmony with your Desenio gallery wall.

When in the beginning stages of your planning your gallery wall…

Think about your colour scheme. A good gallery wall has a theme to it and a colour scheme running throughout it. For me, it was all about bringing the pinks to compliment the dark green walls, whilst also embracing the green with some different shades. This large print was perfect for adding a dose of pink that the room needed. It’s more blush than anything else. I also wanted to incorporate white in a way into the gallery wall, without it being too brilliant white. The two lightest posters are great for this. They are an off-white so they brighten up the wall without standing out too much and distracting away from the other pictures.

Think about the meaning of the pictures. When creating a gallery wall, people are going to ask you why you chose these prints. And ‘because I like them’, just doesn’t quite cut the mustard anymore. So for me, picking the tulip prints is because I’m obsessed with this grown-up pink colour, it reflects the current change in colour. The monstera print is because this is my absolute favourite plant. And the New York map is because this is where Lee and I got married and I can point to exactly where on the map.

The prints I went with for my Desenio gallery wall were: Bed of FlowersPink Tulipe No. 3New YorkMonstera ThreeGreen ForestPink Tulipe No. 1 and Conservatory. I wanted a mixture of landscapes and portrait pictures to give the wall some depth.

HOW TO PLAN OUT YOUR DESENIO GALLERY WALL.

The first thing you need to do before adding nails to a wall is to plan the gallery wall out first. The best thing to do is to get some paper and create templates the size of your pictures and stick them to the wall. This helps you get a sense of how the pictures will go onto the wall and look once all in place. This is how I worked out my initial Desenio gallery wall idea was too big for the wall space I had planned out. So, with a few tweaks, I managed to recreate the gallery wall. Thanks to my initial planning with the colours, even with this re-gig the prints worked well together.

Next is to take your time putting your gorgeous prints up. Start with the largest one. Put the prints up slowly but surely, taking time to step back, assess and measure to make sure you’re gaps between prints are perfect. Slowly but surely, you’re gallery wall will start to come together…

THE FINISHED RESULTS.

I’m so happy with the way the gallery wall turned out. It looks so amazing! I just love how gorgeous the prints look together! It’s turned this blank wall into something for a feature. I just love coming home and it’s the first thing I see when I come through my front door. Adding a gallery wall is the quickest way to add something extra to your room. It allows you to show off your personality and create a lovely focal point to a room. I have a few more prints to get for the rest of the room. I cannot wait to show you which prints I’m getting. Desenio has such amazing fab options. Honestly, it’s going to complete the room perfectly.
